Selective Excitation of Higher-radial-order Laguerre-Gaussian Beams Using a Solid-state Digital Laser

چکیده

In this paper, we use a digital laser to generate high-radial-order Laguerre-Gaussian, LGp,0 modes by loading digital holograms on a phase-only spatial light modulator that act as an end mirror of a diode-end-pumped laser resonator. The digital holograms were encoded with an amplitude ring mask, which contained absorption rings that match the p-zeros of the Laguerre polynomial. We demonstrate the generation of high-quality LGp,0 modes with a mode volume that is directly proportional to the mode order, p. This work demonstrates the possible of using the digital laser as a tool for simulating optical elements that will be used in pursuing high brightness lasers. p Lp(X) 0 1 1 1-X 2 X2/2 − 2X + 1 3 −X3/6 + 3X /2 − 3X + 1 Table 1: Laguerre Polynomials. Analytic solution of flat-top Gaussian and Laguerre-Gaussian laser field components.

We generalized the nonparaxial field components of Laguerre-Gaussian and flattened Gaussian beams obtained using the angular spectrum method to include symmetric radial and angular expansions and simplified them using an approximate evaluation of the integral equations for the field components. These field components possess series expressions in orders of a natural expansion parameter, which c...

Shaping Laguerre-Gaussian laser modes with binary gratings using a digital micromirror device.

Laguerre-Gaussian (LG) beams are used in many research fields, including microscopy, laser cavity modes, and optical tweezing. We developed a holographic method to generate pure LG modes (amplitude and phase) with a binary amplitude-only digital micromirror device (DMD) as an alternative to the commonly used phase-only spatial light modulator. The advantages of such a DMD include very high fram...

Stable propagation of non-Gaussian beams in a multiple-pass cell.

To apply annular output beams emitted from an unstable resonator to a multiple-pass cell (MPC) for Raman conversion, we studied the mode-matching condition of non-Gaussian beams to a MPC using beam propagation analysis based on Laguerre-Gaussian functions. During transits of the MPC, the radial profile of an annular beam changes between annular and Airy patterns. Although such behavior indicate...

Gaussian, Hermite-Gaussian, and Laguerre-Gaussian beams: A primer

The paper aims at presenting a didactic and self-contained overview of Gauss-Hermite and Gauss-Laguerre laser beam modes. The usual textbook approach for deriving these modes is to solve the Helmoltz electromagnetic wave equation within the paraxial approximation. Here, a different technique is presented: Using the plane wave representation of the fundamental Gaussian mode as seed function, all...

The Generation of Higher-order Laguerre-Gauss Optical Beams for High-precision Interferometry

Thermal noise in high-reflectivity mirrors is a major impediment for several types of high-precision interferometric experiments that aim to reach the standard quantum limit or to cool mechanical systems to their quantum ground state. This is for example the case of future gravitational wave observatories, whose sensitivity to gravitational wave signals is expected to be limited in the most sen...
